SCULPTURE by the SEA (3rd November)

Hi Everybody,
Another year and more art sculptures to line the shoreline cliffs from Bondi to Tamarra.  This is the 6th year that Society members forfeit their sleep, for the opportunity to silhouette the Sculptures against (hopefully) a rainbow coloured dawn sky.
(wet alternative is 10th November)
Check this page of the website the morning of the 3rd November from 4am to confirm outing is still on re weather etc

More details here shortly …

Navy International Fleet Review OUTINGS (3rd, 4th, 5th October)

3 x outing’s coming up for holiday weekend …

The first 2 other outing’s planned in relation to the International Fleet Review, are outing’s you can just come too (no need to let me know).
ALL outings will be on WET or FINE …

OUTING Thursday 3rd October (Tall Ships Arrival)
Catch train into City – Ferry to Zoo – Walk or bus up hill to Bradleys Head Road T/O, then, walk into Bradley’s Head for arrival of Tall Ships.  The advantage of this location is that the Tall Ships are coming into the Harbour using the western channel, therefore they will pass very close to Bradley’s Head (and the sun will be behind us)  Arrival is scheduled for between 11am – 2pm.  They will dock in and around Darling Harbour.  A lot of other people will have the idea, so let’s just take it as it comes …  Bring wet weather gear, food & drink.
Meeting details:  Jannali Station (7.50am) to catch the 8.05am train to the City, or meet at Wharf No.2 (Quay) to catch the 9.15am ferry to Taronga Zoo.

OUTING Friday 4th October (Warships Arrival)
Catch train into City – Ferry to Manly, then return, then ferry to Manly, then return …  Day tripper ticket bought at the station will cover all ferry trips on the day + the train to and from.  Warships are due into harbour all through the day but between 9.30am & 10.15am, air displays will be conducted on the harbour.  What a great way to photograph the Air Force and the 40 War Ships from all over the World entering the Harbour, and what a better way to see and photograph them, than by passing them in the Manly Ferry.  A lot of other people will have the idea, so let’s just take it as it comes …
Meeting details:  Jannali Station (7.10am) to catch the 7.23am train to the City, or meet at Wharf No.3 (Quay) to catch the 9.30am ferry to Manly (early but necessary).

 OUTING Saturday 5th October
We now have booked the balance of tickets for the Cruise on the 65’ Catamaran ‘MV Coast’ (public cruise) 10am – 2pm, departing from King Street Wharf on Saturday at 10am.  66 of us will be out on our beautiful Harbour for 4h for the biggest harbour event since 2000.  Thanks to everybody for their support, but please note, I’m still waiting for $70 payments from 11 people.        Payments A.S.A.P please …

Forecast is a beautiful day, so bring your hat & sun cream as well as your camera.
After the cruise (2pm), you might like to walk around the Darling Harbour precinct to see the tall ships tied up there.
Meeting details:  Jannali Station (7.25am) to catch the 7.37am train to the City, or meet at King Street Wharf at 9.30am.

We have a group booking, so we need to board as a group – PLEASE DON’T BE LATE …

(MEET 9.30am at King Street Wharf)

After the cruise, some people have decided to stay in the City to see the light show that night …

 Saturday 5th October (NIGHT)

The Harbour will be alight with fireworks (some being fired off the bows of the warships) as well as laser displays on the hulls of some of the ships and the Harbour Bridge & Opera House.  If interested, let me know on Saturday.

BELLAMBI Outing is ON (15th September)

Hi Everybody,
Looks like we might be lucky.  This month we don’t have a wet alternative weekend (because 25 of us will be at Kangaroo Island) we will take the risk with the outing.  Rug up, bring a rain jacket and wear good shoes for walking in the sand.  You watch … the sun will come out and we will have clear skies for the walk …  Low tide is at 9am.
See you either at Jannali (7.30am) or at Bellambi (8.30am) – Details in post below this one).

OCTOBER LONG WEEKEND Opportunities

OUTING’s to INTERNATIONAL FLEET REVIEW – October Long Weekend

From Thursday 3rd October Sydney Harbour is hosting an Armada of Tall Ships & Warships to celebrate 100 years since the first Naval Fleet sailed into Sydney Harbour.

Activities in brief included in this feast of photographic opportunities:

·       Thursday 3rd October – Tall Ships sailing into Sydney Harbour on Thursday morning from 11am – 2pm.

·       Friday 4th – 40 Navy Warships from all over the World arrive in Sydney Harbour.

·       Saturday 5th – Full day of activities:

·         9.50am – 10am 100 gun salute from Garden Island

·         3 x reviewing lines of ships will proceed through the harbour (nose to tail) from 10am till 2.30pm.

·         The first 2 review lines will pass by Kirribilli House where the review ship, the HMAS Leeuwin will be stationed.

·         10am the first review line of minor war vessels will proceed past the review ship.

·         10.30am, the second reviewing line will come into the harbour compiled of seven RAN warships lead by HMAS Sydney, and this line will represent the original 7 warships of the 1913 fleet.  They will proceed up the Harbour and file past Kirribilli House.

·         12.30pm the third reviewing line compiled of HMAS Leeuwin, HMAS Advance, STS Young Endeavour and the Lady Hopetoun will move through the harbour to review all the other countries warships that are moored at various points within the harbour.

·         2.30pm on the Fleet Air Arm and Royal Australian Air force will conduct flypasts over the Harbour.

·         Also from 2.30pm – 6.30pm, naval helicopter Search & Rescue displays will be held.

·         Then International Fleet Review Fireworks and Lightshow.

.     The Lightshow will be projected onto hulls of the Warships anchored in the Harbour together with displays on the Harbour Bridge & Pylons as well as the Opera House sails.

.    The Fireworks will be set off from various locations in the harbour including off four of the Warships.

I am intending to have a few outings over this time.  Here are some of my ideas that we can discuss at the meeting Thursday night.

 1.       IDEA – Thursday morning 3rd October – Catch train into City, then Ferry over to Taronga Zoo, then walk (or bus) up the hill then walk in to Bradley’s Head for the Tall Ships entry into the Harbour (11am – 2pm).  With morning light, photographing the ships from the southern shoreline will be spoilt by flaring, and because the ships come so close to the northern shore as they round Bradley’s Head, it’s the perfect vantage point.  They are moving through the harbour and birthing in and around Darling Harbour, so hopefully they will be under full sail coming up to, and passing by Bradley’s Head.

2.       IDEA – Friday morning 4th October – Catch train into City buying a day tripper ticket (multiple ferry trips).  Catch a ferry to Manly and return to coincide with fleet Warships entry into Harbour.  Catch the ferry again to Manly return, to get more opportunities.

 3.       IDEA – Saturday Options:

a.       Catch train in early to go to vantage point of either Opera House or Mrs Macquarie’s Chair

b.      Pay $85 and go on a 4hour Cruise in the Harbour with a BBQ lunch (11-3)

c.       Then after either option above, go to or back to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair mid-afternoon to wait for the Light Show & Fireworks, then walk back to Martin Place Station.

We will discuss options at the meeting , and I will have more info about cruises available …Greg

OUTING – Sunday 25th August – Botany Bay Northern Headland Coastal Walk

NEXT OUTING has CHANGED …!

Hi Everybody,

It was intended to have our next outing to Auburn Botanic Gardens for the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival on the 25th August, but due to the thousands of people that visit the gardens on the two weekends of the festival, it has been decided to cancel the outing.  It is suggested that it would be more appropriate to visit mid-week and first thing in the morning, to avoid crowds of people in your shots.

So NOW the outing for August is …

Outing:   Northern Headland of Botany Bay (Coastal Walk)

Date:       SUNDAY 25th August, 2013 (8.30am)

Meeting/Time:           On Anzac Parade at the entrance to Botany Bay National Park & NSW Golf Club (park/meet on grass verge on right hand side of the road or in Goonda Ave at 8.30am sharp.  We will then drive into the National Park and park.

Cost:  $2 donation to Society – goes towards Xmas BBQ & Xmas Party – collected when group shot taken.

Wet Alternative:  If the weather is unkind to us, and the Outing is cancelled, then we will try for the following Sunday (1st September) Same time – Same place …

CONFIRMATION:  To confirm that the outing is still on (re weather etc) go to website:

www.sutherlandshirephotography.com.au then ‘Shire Amateur Photographers’ Society’ – ‘Outing Details & Updates’.  Confirmation will be posted here from 6am on Sunday 25th August.
